Hydrological and Hydraulic Study for a Waste Treatment Project in Cuenca

Conducting a hydrological and hydraulic study as part of the development of a waste treatment chain near a watercourse. The objective is to assess whether the site is at risk of flooding. The study includes an analysis of hydrological risks (flow paths, rainfall and runoff studies, flood height) for return periods of 10, 50, and 100 years, in an urban context of 55,000 inhabitants.

Resilient management of urban water services and watershed protection

Technical assistance to AFD to implement projects under the European EUROCLIMA+ programme

Through a resident technical assistant and a pool of experts, we have been supporting AFD with the technical and financial supervision and implementation of 6 Euroclima+ funded projects that focus on water management to improve urban resilience and reduce the risk of flood and drought-related disasters. We have organised regional events and implemented a communication and visibility plan. Euroclima+ is a European Union programme that aims to provide a political and technical response to the effects of climate change in 18 countries in the Latin America and Caribbean region.

Analysis of the generation, monitoring, integration and presentation of SDG6–related information and data

Phase 1: Conducted in four countries (Peru, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia), this phase consisted of a technical and institutional diagnosis to identify gaps in data generation, monitoring, and articulation. Recommendations were formulated for the OLAS platform (Latin America and the Caribbean Observatory for Water and Sanitation).

Phase 2: This phase focuses on Brazil, Bolivia, Honduras, and Uruguay. It aims to conduct similar diagnostics to develop recommendations for strengthening information management in these countries.

This assignment formed part of the US$25 million “Lazos de Agua” programme funded by One Drop, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Coca-Cola and FEMSA foundations. The aim was to improve access to drinking water and sanitation and promote hygiene measures for approximately 200,000 people in Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua and Paraguay by 2021.
